Old Homosassa, Florida

Old Homosassa is an area rich in history. Its varied habitat and natural features, combined with a history of different cultures, has made Old Homosassa the unique community it is today. The first inhabitants were Native Americans.

The town of Homosassa is an old Florida village that rests among the swampy bayous near the mouth of the Homosassa River. The head water of the river is Homosassa Springs, one of Florida's First Magnitude springs located just west of US-19.

The centerpiece of Old Homosassa is the world-famous Ellie Schiller Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. The park features rescued and rehabilitated native Florida wildlife, including manatees, black bears, bobcats, white-tailed deer, American alligators, American crocodiles, river otters, and many species of birds.

Old Homosassa is a great place for fishing, boating, and kayaking. The area is home to a variety of fish, including tarpon, redfish, trout, and snook. The Homosassa River is also a popular spot for scalloping during the summer months.
